NYMPHAEA GREY OPEN EDITION for Woods Art Institute
Magda Krawcewicz leads us, with delicate lines, layers of color, and forms, lightly and sensually into archetypal, mystical realms of imagination. All her works—paintings as well as sculptures—seem to be imbued with a fluid quality that allows for transitions and leaves figuration suspended. The artist draws on ancient symbols, thereby addressing the subconscious and collective memory. In the translucent layers, the figures merge and simultaneously disappear. It is the enigmatic nature of the world that has led people since time immemorial to try to explain it in myths; Magda Krawcewicz, building on this, finds images full of delicate yet also disturbing poetry.
